On 23rd April 2025, the students of Textile Design had the opportunity to visit the
Central Silk Board, Premnagar as part of an educational industrial tour organized by the
Textile Department. This visit aimed to provide students with practical insights into the
sericulture process and silk production techniques.
During the visit, Mr. Rahul Pal, a Textile Engineer at the facility, gave a detailed
explanation of the entire sericulture process — from the rearing of silkworms to the
reeling and processing of silk fibres. His in-depth knowledge and practical
demonstrations helped students understand the delicate and labour-intensive stages of
silk production.
Additionally, Mr. Bhatt, the Director of the centre, shared valuable information about
the significance of silk in the textile industry, current trends, and the importance of
innovation in traditional practices. His interaction encouraged students to think
critically about sustainability and craftsmanship in textile design.
The visit proved to be highly educational and inspiring, bridging the gap between
academic knowledge and industrial practice. It offered students a firsthand experience
of the intricate journey of silk — one of the most luxurious and culturally significant
fibers in textile history.
A special thanks goes to our respected Principal, Mrs. Namita Mamgain, for organizing
this insightful trip and supporting the Textile Department in enriching student learning
beyond the classroom.
