On 23
August 2024, students of our institute participated in an on-the-spot essay
competition on the topic "The Importance of Khadi Fabric." The competition,
organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, small
and Medium Enterprises (Govt of India) aimed to raise awareness about the
significance of Khadi fabric and its role in India's freedom struggle, as well
as its relevance in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly fashion today.
The
participants had to write a comprehensive essay within a given time frame,
reflecting their understanding of Khadi, its history, and its contemporary
relevance. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from the students of
all departments, each showcasing their creativity, knowledge, and writing
skills.
In their
essays, students highlighted the journey of Khadi from being a symbol of
resistance against British colonial rule, as promoted by Mahatma Gandhi, to
becoming a representation of self-reliance and sustainable living.
The
competition provided a platform for students to express their thoughts on
preserving traditional crafts and supporting local artisans. It also encouraged
them to think critically about the choices they make as consumers and how they
can contribute to a sustainable future.
Overall,
the event was a valuable learning experience for the participants, helping them
to connect with their cultural heritage. The competition concluded with a
message to continue supporting Khadi as a means to promote sustainable fashion,
empower rural artisans, and honour India's rich textile heritage.
